These terms are between you and basepurpose, a sole proprietorship based in India, which makes scratchcat. Where they say I or me, that is basepurpose. Using scratchcat means you accept them.
What you buy
One purchase is a personal licence to use scratchcat on your own devices. It is not a subscription and there is no renewal. Updates are free, and you will never be charged for the app again. You are licensed to use the software; you do not buy the software itself.
From the Microsoft Store. Microsoft's own Store terms apply too, and your purchase belongs to your Microsoft account, which counts devices by Microsoft's rule.
Direct. When direct sales open, a licence key works on up to 5 devices at once. Deactivate one in Settings to free its place. A Store purchase and a direct key are separate, and neither unlocks the other.
Trials
Microsoft Store. Fifteen days, fully working, run by Microsoft.Direct download, when it opens. Fifteen days, fully working, with no account and no card.
When a trial ends the pad becomes read only and dictation stops. You can still read everything, copy it, and export your whole history. Nothing is deleted, because ending a trial may remove the tool but never your text.
Refunds
Bought through the Microsoft Store. Refunds go through Microsoft's own refund process.
Bought direct. Write to basepurpose.com@gmail.comwithin 14 days of purchase, from the email you bought with, and you will be refunded. No reason is needed. A refunded key stops working.
Your text
Everything you write, dictate or paste into scratchcat is yours. It stays on your device, and I have no access to it. See privacy for what the app does and does not send.
Providers you choose
Cloud dictation and cloud repair use a provider you pick (OpenAI, Anthropic or xAI) with your own key. Your use of them is between you and them: their terms, privacy rules and charges apply, and I am not responsible for their service, what it costs you, or whether it is available.
Repair can be wrong
Repair uses a generative language model, on your device or at your provider. It can change what you meant or miss a mistake. Read what it gives you. You are responsible for what you send or publish, and one undo reverses a repair. Write to me if it produces something harmful.
Fair use
Do not use scratchcat for anything illegal. Do not copy, sell, share or redistribute the app or your licence key, and do not reverse engineer, decompile or modify it beyond what the law allows you to.
Open source
scratchcat includes open source components, each under its own licence. Settings lists them under Open source notices, and those licences govern those components.
Updates and changes
I improve scratchcat over time, and a feature may change or, rarely, be removed. Thechangelog records what moved.
What I can promise
scratchcat is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. I work to keep it correct and to fix what is wrong quickly, but I cannot promise it will never fail. Where the law allows, my total liability to you is limited to what you paid for scratchcat, and I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Your text is on your own disk precisely so that a failure of the app is never a loss of your words.
Ending
You can stop using scratchcat whenever you like. If you break these terms your licence ends. A refund ends it too. Your text stays yours either way.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. A change never takes away something you already bought.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes go to the courts of India. Nothing here takes away the consumer rights the law where you live gives you and does not let a contract remove.
